Life can be so stressful! We all experience stress, disappointment, anxiety, anger, fear, and many other emotions. It’s totally normal to experience these emotions, but they don’t have to rule your life!
Mindfulness is a way of paying attention—on purpose—to whatever is
happening in the present moment, with curiosity and openness. It’s learning a new way of experiencing the world and interacting with the challenges and goodness that comes. Practicing mindfulness builds inner strentgh and helps calm our minds.
During this 6-week course, students will learn to become mentally stronger and better able to handle the stresses in day-to-day lives. Students will learn how to meditate, listen to their bodies, navigate thoughts, surf the waves of our emotions, and develop healthy mental skills and habits.
Erin has taught Learning to BREATHE through the Davis Mindfulness Center. She has taught 6th grade, junior high, and high school classes in the Davis School District.
The Learning to BREATHE curriculum was developed by Patricia C. Broderick, PhD. It was a delight to be trained by her in 2019. This course is currently used in many schools, colleges, and other settings around the country. It offers a fantastic introduction to mindfulness and meditation, and stems from the foundations of Jon Kabat-Zinn's Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program.
This course is currently used in many schools around the country with early adolescents, teenagers, and young adults. Be an advocate in your city! After taking the course and discovering the benefits of mindfulness in your life, contact your local schools and advocate for mindfulness education. If you live in Utah, I'd love to connect you with people that can help bring mindfulness to your schools.
