favorite books

Alphabreaths: the ABC's of Mindful Breathing

A beautiful, simple children's book that teaches different types of breaths. Cake breath (deep breath and then blow out like you are blowing out birthday candles), oatmeal breath (breathing in through your nose like you are smelling a bowl of oatmeal and blowing out of your mouth like you are cooling it), and lion's breath (similar to a growl) are favorites at our house.

The Power of Stillness: Mindful Living for Latter-day Saints

Practical mindfulness application in everyday life. Beautiful insight into combining prayer and meditation.

Sitting Still Like a Frog

Mindfulness exercises for kids (and their parents). This is a wonderful book, written for parents to read and then implement the suggestions with their kids. Comes with an audio CD (or link to download) simple mindfulness practices for kids.

The Gifts of Imperfection

Brene Brown explores how to cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection to embrace your imperfections and to recognize that you are enough.

Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less

One of my favorite books of all-time.

Ahn's Anger

A relatable story about a 5-year-old boy named Ahn. When he gets angry, his grandfather asks him to sit with his anger. Ahn learns how his anger has been trying to get his attention. He also discovers what happens as he befriends and takes good care of his anger. This is an important book for all ages.

Grumpy Monkey

Jim Panzee is having a hard day. His well-intentioned friends give him all sorts of suggestions of what he “should” do to feel better. But in the end, it’s allowing himself some time to be grumpy that helps him start feeling a little better.

Crying is Like the Rain

Beautiful book that explores how "feelings are like the weather. They come and go." Wonderful for all ages.
